Perspective. This is a word I use frequently. It is fundamental to so many aspects of our lives as individuals; the choices we make, the way we interact and the things we value. I believe that if we were all to take a step out of our own shoes and see the world through the eyes of another, we will be more inclined to be open to change.

My viewpoint has always been that those who are 40 years old and over are pretty much set in their ways, closed off to the option of learning new things and changing their habits. I may not be correct and I cannot speak for all, but personally, I find it highly unlikely to be able to advise a person in that age range to change their daily routine. Disappointingly, I feel as though this is now a factor amongst many in their 20s and 30s, dare I say the teenagers are adapting this way of thinking.

Something I have noticed about myself and others in their 20s or above is that, we do not really like change. During our teenage years, it felt good to make changes, making new friends, trying new trends etc. That may be due to a lack of experience, a lack of self knowledge and understanding of what we may or may not like, but who is to say that is not a good thing?

In the last 2 - 3 years I have adopted a different mindset, opening up to new ideas, tastes and experiences. I will admit my vision only expanded to the outskirts of London, the circle of friends and associates I have known for years and the usual daily activities I was used to. Then I began to travel more, experience new cultures, meeting new people, started trying things I would not have dared to do on a common Thursday evening before my usual fix of Eastenders. Indeed, I initially stepped out my comfort zone.

On reflection, what I find interesting is how surprised I am to feel this way about embracing change. I am 25 years old, I am still developing my body and mind. I am still learning about myself and the world. How is it that I already feel as though I need to live the rest of my life the way it is today? We usually look to our surroundings and place emphasis on society shaping how we are and how we look at things, in this case I say no.

If you have read up until this point, eradicate that thought from your mind. Change it! Do something different! This is a new week, why not try new things? Find a member of staff at work or someone in your educational institution you would not usually interact with and start a conversation with them. Feel their vibe, connect, interact, see the world through the eyes of another. Change your approach today, do not restrict yourself to routine and normality. No matter how old (or young) you are, the opportunity for change is always available and more importantly, it is not always a bad thing.

Change your perspective.

Embrace life. Love life. Live life.
